Shanara Quartermaine has just received 2022Supporting Training of Aboriginal Researchers & Staff (STARS) Capacity Building Funding Award.

Shanara is a new addition to the Kulunga Aboriginal Unit, working as a Project Officer providing research and administrative support through communication strategies, networking opportunities and cultural awareness initiatives for staff and students across the Institute.

STARS funding has allowed me to complete a Health Promotion course at Curtin University. I used this opportunity to enhance my knowledge of the sector.

"Deepening my understanding on best practices for implementing programs dealing with disease intervention and long-term health conditions. I will use this knowledge to improve Aboriginal health in our communities in hopes to create a positive impact for Aboriginal families and children.”

Thanks to funding from our Staff giving program Peers & Partners and the STARS donor community, the STARS Capacity Building Fund forms part of the Institute's Aboriginal Employment Career Development Strategy, supporting the professional development and career progression of all Aboriginal staff and students.
